| XLSTEM is a stem analysis module offered as an option to WinDENDRO. It is a set of macros that runs from Microsoft Excel (Excel not included). |
XLSTEM calculates the following information from ring width data produced by WinDENDRO:
- Mean radius (quadratic method), diameter and area per disk (available cumulatively or incrementally)
- Tree height and volume as a function of age or year (available cumulatively or incrementally)
- Basal and summary information about the tree
Three height interpolation methods are provided:
New features for the 2010 version (released March 2010):
- Completely redone for Excel 2007 or more (do not work under older versions such as Excel 2003).
- Can analyse files with more than 256 columns (samples with more than 240 rings).
- Can analyse WinDENDRO Version 4 files made by WinDENDRO versions 2005 and more.
- Can convert WinDENDRO Version 4 data files to Version 3, one at a time or in batch.
- Two new measurements added: Stem Volume and Commercial Timber Volume.
- Decadal file conversion uses -9999 instead of 999 as end of sample marker.
- Can analyse files with more than one tree.
- New manual.
Bug Fixes:
- All known bugs have been fixed.
- It will no more crash when opening files with a name made of 31 characters or more.
- Will handle correctly files with bark and with specified age (different from the number of rings).
- The Diameter in function of height graphic will now go up to the tree height instead of the last disk and interpolated heights are visible between disks.

Calculations can be done interactively on selected trees or in batch.
All data can be displayed graphically.

WinSTEM V.2004 - Release date: January 26, 2005
Features: Bugs in prevous versions fixed |
WinSTEM is also a stem analysis module offered as an option to WinDENDRO. It has the same features than XLStem but offers a few improvements:
- WinSTEM is 100 times faster than XLSTEM;
- It has no ring limitation (XLSTEM has 256 maximum);
- Bark data is no more used when producing graphics;
- After data justification (to align them per year in columns). columns that have no data are empty rather than having a zero value (so that they are excluded from graphics);
- The conversion to Tucson (decadal) format has 3 significant digits after the dot (instead of 2);
- Bark presence is verified for all data lines. Files with mixed bark presence (so lines with it, others without) are not allowed and will generate a warning message during the analysis. Also if the title line indicate that bark is present but that no such data exists in the file (or vice versa) a warning message is displayed. The latter situation could cause negative values in data produced by previous versions of XLStem;
- Doesn't require any special software (like Excel for XLSTEM).

Bugs solved:
- Disks with one ring are analysed correctly;
- In some situations, negative values were present after the last valid year data. This problem has been fixed;
- Data files with more than one tree: the volume is computed as it should.
Known bug:
- Its protection key must be the first connected to the computer parallel port if more than one keys are connected. The other keys must be connected at the back of WinSTEM key.
